Thermal Engineering Specialist

We are seeking a Sr. Staff Thermal Engineer to perform thermal simulations that influence package and system design. The ideal candidate will propose novel thermal solutions by investigating relevant technologies and develop as well as validate thermal models for packaging, including heat transfer and airflow.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform thermal simulations to influence package and system design.
• Propose novel thermal solutions by investigating relevant technologies.
• Develop and validate thermal models for packaging (heat transfer, airflow).
• Collaborate with design engineers to optimize thermal management using CFD.
• Drive characterization and validation through lab prototyping or vendor experiments.
• Summarize findings for key stakeholders across Lightmatter, suppliers, and customers.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• 5 years of experience in package or system thermal analysis.
• Deep knowledge of thermal conduction and convective heat transfer concepts.
• Experience deploying advanced thermal management technologies (TECs, heat pipes, TIMs).
• Experience with steady-state/transient thermal analysis in ANSYS Icepak/Fluent or Flotherm.
• Experience setting up and interpreting CFD simulations for complex geometries and boundary conditions.
