Surface Chemistry Scientist

The Senior Scientist in Surface Chemistry will be responsible for designing, developing, and evaluating innovative surface chemistry solutions for next-generation sequencing (NGS) and multiomics applications. This role involves hands-on laboratory work and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product development.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments to investigate cell-material interfaces using in vitro models.
• Lead product development initiatives from experimental design through to data analysis.
• Troubleshoot issues related to surface fouling, non-specific binding, and cell compatibility.
• Support the transition from research to product development in collaboration with process and operations teams.
• Maintain active hands-on laboratory involvement throughout the development lifecycle.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• PhD in chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, bioengineering, physics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of industry experience in surface chemistry, materials science, or biomolecular interfaces.
• Strong publication record and presentation skills, including patents or novel methods.
• Deep expertise in surface chemistry, polymer chemistry, and biomolecule-surface interactions.
• Strong understanding of cell biology, particularly cell adhesion and extracellular matrix interactions.
• Hands-on experience developing coatings for cell-based assays in microfluidics.
• Familiarity with NGS, genomics, proteomics, or multiomics platforms.
• Experience with surface analytical techniques such as AFM, ellipsometry, FTIR, SEM, TOF-SIMS, and XPS.
