About SAS Enterprise Guide

SAS Enterprise Guide is a powerful, point-and-click interface to SAS that empowers users to access, analyze, and report on data without requiring extensive programming knowledge. It provides a visual, project-oriented environment that streamlines the entire data analysis workflow, from data import and manipulation to statistical analysis and report generation. Users can leverage the full power of SAS through intuitive menus and wizards, while still having the flexibility to write custom code when needed. The tool is particularly praised for its ease of use and ability to handle large datasets efficiently. As part of the SAS ecosystem, it integrates seamlessly with other SAS products and data sources. AiDOOS enhances deployment and adoption by offering a unified platform for managing and scaling SAS Enterprise Guide environments, providing streamlined provisioning, monitoring, and support, thereby reducing operational overhead and accelerating time-to-insight for organizations.

"Empowering and Capable for All Users"
It's empowerment in a box! The capabilities are incredible—countless workflows, dataflows, and statistical options. It suits every user level, from GUI to programmer to statistician. SAS support is top-notch, responding promptly. It would be better if it aligned more with SAS Studio, but SAS is working on that. It lets me do everything my local IT shop can't.

"Click-to-SQL Saves Time"
I love generating SQL via point-and-click—it saves time and avoids having to recall field names. However, I know features like summary and freq exist but don't know how to use them, and some coding tasks are hard to do via the GUI. More documentation or examples would help. It's great for quickly seeing data types and spotting errors in tables.

"Useful Code Snippets and Data Exploration"
The ability to highlight and run specific code chunks is the best feature. I can view all objects and inspect columns or samples. I'm not a fan of the logs—more customization would be nice. For data transformation, it's well-organized, breaking my process into 5-6 clear steps, and easy to hand off to others.

"Intuitive Process Flows but Scalability Concerns"
The process flows are fantastic—they let me arrange processes in execution order and easily tweak code. Setup was straightforward, though I wasn't involved. I'm not keen on new features like SAS Copilot and AI; it doesn't scale as well as Viya Cliod. For data analytics, it stages complex data into digestible aggregates. The process flows are a highlight.

"Fast Access but Performance Lags"
SAS Enterprise Guide gives quick access to SaaS and raw datasets—literally within a minute on a PC, which is fantastic. However, running or rerunning some programs takes a long time; it's not as fast as SAS Studio. Programs with heavy data and modulations can take 4-5 minutes. But for dataset access and ease of use, it's great.

"Great Process Flows and Reusable Code"
The process flow feature is excellent, and project creation generates reusable code that helps produce unique records efficiently. Setup was a breeze. One drawback: when you run a new data step, the previous dataset gets overwritten, though it's saved in libraries. I use it for TLFs and programming checks. Process flow and reusable code are major time-savers.

"Versatile and Fun—A Semi-GUI That Gets the Job Done"
It's incredibly versatile, letting me code in any language and switch between them for efficiency. The semi-GUI means I don't have to code everything for exploration. These features make work quick, painless, and enjoyable. Nothing to complain about—keep it going for at least a decade! In public education, it's been essential for delivering assessment analytics in new ways, making data digestible for non-technical staff.

"Robust and User-Friendly with Great Performance"
I rely on SAS Enterprise Guide for automated financial reporting. It connects seamlessly to various sources like Teradata, Snowflake, Excel, and Hadoop, and outputs in many formats. It's simple yet dynamic for development and processing. The layout is clean, support is solid, and performance is fast and reliable. It supports everything from quick reports to complex analyses. A couple of gripes: scroll bars in 8.5/8.6 are tiny, and the default limit of 500 items in folders is annoying—should be user-configurable. Also, it would be great to use Python within SAS EG without upgrading to Viya.

"Great for Data Handling but Server Speed Could Improve"
The query builder is a standout—it's quick and intuitive for exploring tables and generates well-structured SQL with helpful comments, cutting development time and keeping code clean. Library management is clear and organized, making it easy to navigate datasets. Program creation is simple and fast thanks to a user-friendly interface. Overall, it's stable, efficient, and well-designed. Installation was surprisingly quick and hassle-free. However, server performance can be sluggish when pulling large datasets or running complex queries, which slows workflows and impacts productivity, especially with many users. But it's great for viewing libraries and building programs, reducing navigation time and errors. The query builder is a favorite for its speed and structured queries, enhancing efficiency and readability.

"Powerful Tool but UI Needs a Refresh"
SAS Enterprise Guide connects easily and quickly gets you started. It handles multiple SAS environments well via profiles, and its SAS tasks and import wizard make moving data to unit servers from various sources possible—something other tools can't do. Right-click exports come in handy too. However, interrupting jobs is tricky, and it lags behind SAS Studio in speed. The UI could be modernized to streamline tasks and file copying; many users don't understand the copy files task or find the share objects feature intuitive. Better integration with SQL and smarter layout suggestions for data access would be improvements. For transferring final products to unit servers, it's invaluable.
