Lucidworks Fusion

Having worked with Apache Solr for three years, Lucidworks has consistently helped with complex issues. They provide solutions for unresolved data processing, integration, and transformation challenges.

Scanning millions of documents on our intranet keeps data secure. Upfront learning costs are steep, but justified if you have enough documents and admin time. We've learned how many documents are needlessly recreated internally, leading to process improvements.

Relative to other technologies, it facilitates node in and node out seamlessly. Yet cross-data-center replication hasn't been properly implemented. Query tuning is a plus.

Dealing with Solr, we encounter various scenarios, and it's great to get prompt help. Lucidworks support has been excellent. It helps us learn new features and engage in community discussions. However, we question how effectively we can utilize support. Without raising tickets, we get little value, which isn't a complaint but a point for improvement. Proactive support on new features and bugs would be nice. Turnaround for production-critical issues is quick, and their support investigates and resolves our Apache Solr problems.

The Fusion tool is a great application for integrating with Apache Solr. The added value of the licensed version convinced our company. We can enhance queries sent to Solr using lookups within query pipelines. The Scheduler enables deltas at user-friendly times. The banana dashboard is not usable, though updated in 4.1+. As Lucidworks continues to upgrade, I'd like clearer communication about performance changes in individual components. Consider the benefits of the licensed software on top of Apache Solr. Query pipelines enrich searches and results, offering huge flexibility to developers and for tracking search terms and analytics. It facilitates enterprise search for corporate apps with fast results for most use cases. The full-text search capability is the biggest win. We switched from our in-house phrase-matching search to Solr/Fusion, which has positioned us to offer more flexible search results to current and future user bases within the company.

Integrity and ethics build a strong reputation. Lucidworks provides excellent software solutions. I have no negative comments. They are a prominent brand in software development, delivering top-notch products for any need. They put in their best effort. Their professional culture can address any common problem.

The product, Fusion and App Studio, are exceptional search tools with nearly limitless capabilities. Not only is maintenance straightforward, but the customization options for search are insane. You can build an entire screen with App Studio to fit any need. Customer service, however, involves a few days of back-and-forth to get the support tech up to speed on our tech stack. As a large org, I'd expect more familiarity. Turnover seems high, which is concerning. Most engineers who assisted with setup were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful (except one newbie). Non-technical staff seem less familiar with the product than expected. Technical documentation is poor; broken code snippets are scattered around (at least during implementation), making sample code hard to follow. Sometimes docs lack answers. Post-implementation, push to talk directly with an engineer. Customer service reps ask for clarifications that engineers would already know. We use Search to crawl internal data sources, and since implementing Lucidworks, search performance and relevancy have drastically improved per feedback.

I thoroughly appreciate having full control over all collections and datasource settings from the web interface. It offers numerous options for creating query pipelines, and datasource loading is swift. The UI is extremely user-friendly, granting quick access to various configurations. Role and permission management is well-defined to enhance security. Occasionally, issues arise, like being unable to view jobs or inflexibility in changing field data types (e.g., from int to string). Deleting a field seems to leave a log that causes problems when trying to create a field with the same name but a different type. I highly recommend it; it's an experience managing completely different data that end users will appreciate. You can integrate it with other applications like SQL Server by installing the right driver—I've had no issues. The ultra-fast data retrieval for various query types is fantastic; using pre-defined custom fields, I can perform searches that would otherwise be heavy on a database like SQL Server.

A robust search platform for large-scale data processing that assists IT teams with document queries, NoSQL indexing, and database creation; the contextual search feature is my favorite. Data visualization is impressive and user-friendly. However, the pricing is steep, and the absence of a free tier is disappointing for small businesses. I also miss fraud management capabilities and statistical analysis. Searching and managing student data from a vast pool was straightforward thanks to contextual search and scalability. The AI-driven processing can be applied across many domains, significantly aiding in onboarding student details during admissions.

Outstanding support! Their team is always available to assist. Both consulting and on-site support have been phenomenal. The staff is well-informed, supportive, and consistently ensures our needs and expectations are met. The extra effort required to tune and maintain accuracy and relevancy in our pipelines is a downside. It demands a user and admin with backend development skills to adjust. They are cooperative, and their customer representatives are readily accessible. We encountered issues with search accuracy and relevancy, but Lucidworks resolved them swiftly, and their consulting teams remain on hand for any problems.
