Streamlining Product Qualification Process with Level 1 Applications

Eligibility for Level 1 Applications

Level 1 applications allow for the submission of a single product or a family of models with minor differences. These differences can include CCT, dimming capabilities, voltage variations, or variations that do not affect performance, such as housing color. To qualify, the efficacy testing needs to cover the lowest-CCT product in the group. If there are multiple efficacy requirements necessitating multiple tests, a Level 2 application is recommended.

Model Number Guidance

Submitting complete model numbers is crucial for transparent product representation. The model numbers should include all performance-affecting and non-affecting variations offered to customers. Options like exterior paint color, mounting, and plug types can be bracketed in a single model number. However, options impacting performance like lumen output or dimming capabilities must be listed separately. Any discrepancies in the model numbers may delay the processing of the application.

Brand Name Guidance

Including a consistent brand name in applications enhances product searchability on the QPLs. Variations in brand names can lead to confusion for users, so it is essential to avoid spelling errors or extraneous characters. The Brand Name field should not be left blank, as it will default to the manufacturer's name. Updating brand names on the QPLs is a free process and can be done by submitting a Product Update Application.

Private Label Applications for Qualifying Products

Private Label Eligibility

Private Label applications allow products to be listed under a private label as long as they are identical to the originally qualified versions from the OEM. To submit a Private Label application, the OEM product must already be DLC qualified. If using OEM test reports for unqualified products, complete the Test Report Authorization Form and submit either a Level 1 or Level 2 application. Organizations handling multiple brands must provide private label documentation and fees with the original application. Wholly-owned subsidiaries using different model numbers/brands must follow this process.
