Understanding Player Performance in League of Legends
League of Legends is a highly competitive game with millions of players looking to climb the ranked ladder. Many players often find themselves stuck in a specific tier and struggle to progress further. This is where Mobalytics comes in - a tool designed to help players improve by assessing their strengths and weaknesses, providing guidance on how to advance. By analyzing data from the League of Legends API and Mobalytics platform, we gained valuable insights into how players climb the ranks.
Impact of Mobalytics on Player Progression
Our study focused on comparing the climbing patterns of Mobalytics users versus non-users on the North American server during a specific timeframe. We discovered that Mobalytics users were 27.0% more likely to climb at least one division compared to non-Mobalytics users. This trend was consistent across various divisions, with the highest increase observed in Bronze at 33.1% and the lowest in Platinum at 23.0%. Additionally, our analysis revealed that frequent Mobalytics users had a 17.8% higher likelihood of climbing than less active users, emphasizing the positive impact of consistent platform engagement.
League of Legends Ranking System
In League of Legends, ranks are determined by tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, Challenger) and divisions (V to I). The player distribution across tiers is right-skewed, with a majority in Bronze to Gold tiers. Understanding the distinctions between Low Elo and High Elo players is crucial, as strategies that work for one group may not be effective for the other. Mobalytics aims to provide tailored guidance based on an individual's skill level and goals, enhancing their climbing experience.
Methodology and Data Collection
We gathered data from over 1.7 million League of Legends players, including 110,426 Mobalytics users, during the 2018 Season 8 on the NA server. By leveraging the Riot Games API and Mixpanel, we analyzed player interactions with Mobalytics features and tracked their ranked progression. The study focused on LP data, division climbs, and the impact of Mobalytics actions on user performance. Through meticulous data collection and analysis, we gained valuable insights into the correlation between platform usage and player success.
