Context of the Project

The installation and commissioning of the navigation communications, air traffic surveillance, and management systems (CNS-ATM) for the El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá presented a significant opportunity for modernization. Aerocivil de Colombia, the governing agency for civil aviation in Colombia, initiated a tender for this comprehensive upgrade, resulting in Indra being awarded the supply contract for their full range of ATM/CNS products.

Proposed Solution by Indra

Indra's solution for air traffic management and surveillance at the El Dorado Airport included the deployment of advanced systems in the control center and the airport's control tower. This encompassed 56 controller positions, with specific focus on managing flight paths, approaches, and control tower operations. The implementation introduced cutting-edge technologies like AMAN, DMAN for traffic flow management, conflict prevention tools, A-SMGCS for ground traffic surveillance, ILS, surface radar, ADS-B stations, multilateration network, and various communication systems.

Benefits of the Indra Solution

The deployment of Indra's air traffic management system brought a multitude of benefits to Colombian air traffic control. It resulted in substantial cost reductions, enhancing efficiency for airlines. The solution also contributed to lowering the environmental impact of operations and ensured compliance with stringent air navigation safety standards. Moreover, the system significantly improved flight safety by providing controllers with accurate and timely information, including air traffic, flight plans, and communication links.

Results Achieved

The successful implementation of Indra's air traffic management solution at the El Dorado Airport led to notable results. With an annual traffic of 25 million passengers, the airport efficiently handles international, domestic, and air shuttle passengers. Serving 42 airlines, the implemented system supports seamless operations and contributes to the overall safety and efficiency of air traffic management in the region.
