OpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP) Integration for Structured Logs
Helix Core introduces the OpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP) Integration, allowing seamless integration of structured logs with observability tools. This feature enables customers to easily transfer structured logs into platforms like New Relic, Grafana Loki, and Kibana, ensuring secure log integrity. Through the 'p4 logexport' command, messages are exported in JSON via OTLP, making them compatible with various tools for efficient data processing.
Delta Syncs of File Revisions
Enhancing performance, Helix Core now offers Delta Syncs for file revisions. Instead of transferring the entire file, only the delta changes are synced, optimizing data transfer and reducing wait times. Users benefit most with small edits to large files, especially in high-latency environments. To utilize Delta Syncs, users need to update to P4 2024.2 and P4V 2024.4 and configure net.delta.transfer.minsize and net.delta.transfer.threshold settings.
Hot File Support for P4VFS
With Hot File Support, P4VFS now syncs metadata initially and defers full file downloads for future needs, enhancing sync performance. Users can define rules for 'hot files' that should always be synced, improving efficiency. The new 'p4 hotfiles' command creates rules based on depot path, file extension, and file size, providing enhanced flexibility for syncing. P4VFS is fully supported on Windows OS, offering faster and more controlled syncing.
Tech Preview: New 'p4 diagnostics' Command for Advanced Troubleshooting
Introducing 'p4 diagnostics', a command to collect server configuration and diagnostic data for advanced troubleshooting. This command simplifies data collection for server-related issues, offering admins relevant information for quick problem resolution. Unlike previous methods, 'p4 diagnostics' doesn't require root access and can be executed by operator users or admins. Available on Linux platforms, this feature is in tech preview to gather user feedback for further enhancements.
Other Updates and Promotions
Helix Core 2024.2 also includes various updates and promotions. Enhanced sparse streams functionality allows unshelving into sparse streams, bringing more flexibility to workflows. Users can now ignore labels with the 'p4 obliterate' command. Multiple filtering enhancements provide more refined search capabilities based on changelists and client workspaces. Additionally, tech preview features like 'p4 topology' and Helix Core Server System Resource Monitoring have been promoted, offering advanced server management tools.
