Revolutionizing RF Innovation: HawkEye 360 Retires Pathfinder Satellites and Introduces Cluster 11

Pathfinder’s Pioneering Achievements

HawkEye 360 has announced the retirement of its pioneering Cluster 1 Pathfinder satellites by the end of 2024, marking the conclusion of the first-generation satellite cluster that revolutionized the commercial RF industry. Launched in December 2018 as a proof-of-concept mission, the Pathfinder satellites showcased that a commercial company could reliably provide valuable RF data, a capability previously monopolized by the government and classified sectors. Originally designed for a two-year mission, these satellites surpassed all expectations, operating well beyond their initial life expectancy. Thanks to the resilient design provided by Space Flight Laboratory (SFL), Pathfinder remained fully operational, exceeding customer needs and supporting critical missions worldwide.

Cluster 11: Ensuring Continuity and Advancing Capabilities

As the Pathfinder trio retires, Cluster 11 will step in to enhance HawkEye 360's satellite constellation capabilities. Set to launch by the end of 2024, Cluster 11 boasts the latest technology and will operate in a mid-inclination orbit, complementing existing clusters to broaden coverage in high-demand regions like the equator. Equipped with a new antenna, Cluster 11 is poised to expand global lower-frequency signal collection, improving HawkEye 360's ability to detect and analyze a wider range of RF signals. This transition to Cluster 11 will seamlessly continue serving the needs of customers, with increased capacity to fulfill the mission previously handled by Cluster 1. Notably, Cluster 11 is the first cluster to undergo vibe-testing at HawkEye 360's Herndon facility, ushering in a new era of advanced technology and innovation for the company.
