Efficient Casing Inspection
The EM Pipe Scanner by Schlumberger is an electromagnetic casing inspection tool that revolutionizes the way casing integrity is evaluated in oil and gas wells. With 18 pad sensors, this tool can quantitatively scan the interior surface and thickness of production casing. By doing so, it enables the detection of casing corrosion, grooves, and splits without the need to pull out the completion tubing, thus saving both time and costs for operators.
Versatile Deployment Options
One of the key advantages of the EM Pipe Scanner is its versatility in deployment. This tool is fluid insensitive, which means it can operate in both liquid and gas environments. Furthermore, it can be deployed using wireline, tractor, or coiled tubing even at well deviations of up to 90°. The time-lapse deployment feature provided by the EM Pipe Scanner allows for corrosion rate estimation, identification of casing corrosion behind tubing, and determination of the inner tubular radius behind scale, offering comprehensive insights into casing integrity.
Advanced Measurement Capabilities
The EM Pipe Scanner utilizes three noninvasive electromagnetic measurement techniques to characterize well casings with precision. These techniques include low- and high-frequency induction currents which are designed to detect metal loss and changes in casing geometry effectively. The tool's initial low-frequency inspection pass allows for rapid monitoring of potential casing defects at speeds of up to 3,600 ft/h, with the ability to analyze multiple casing strings and navigate small restrictions. Additionally, the high-frequency diagnostic pass produces a high-resolution image that accurately assesses the status of the internal casing wall and discriminates defects in single-casing strings, all while being immune to casing wall scale interference.
Comprehensive Data Analysis
Through the combination of multiple measurements and advanced imaging capabilities, the EM Pipe Scanner provides operators with detailed insights into their well's weak points. By locating, identifying, and quantifying damage and corrosion without the need to pull the completion tubing, this tool streamlines the casing integrity evaluation process and allows for prompt decision-making and maintenance planning.
