CAE: Leading the Way in Aviation Training and Support Solutions

1950s - The Beginning

On Saint Patrick's Day in 1947, CAE, originally known as Canadian Aviation Electronics Ltd., was founded by Mr. Ken Patrick, a former Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) officer. The company was established with the goal of creating innovative Canadian solutions with a talented and technology-driven team. Under the leadership of Mr. R. Fraser Elliot, who later became the Chairman of the board, CAE saw prominent industrialists join its board of directors. This marked the inception of a company that would become a pioneer in aviation training and support solutions.

1960s - A New Direction

The 1960s brought a new direction for CAE with the award of significant military contracts for F-104 Starfighter simulators from the Canadian government. These contracts played a crucial role in advancing CAE's expertise in radar land mass simulation, visual systems, motion systems, and mission recording. The successful implementation of these simulators led to further contracts with NATO countries, establishing CAE as a key player in the simulation industry.

1970s - Product Expansion

Fuel shortages, environmental pressures, and government regulations in the 1970s drove an increased demand for flight crew training on simulators among world airlines. CAE rose to meet this demand by custom-designing simulators tailored to each customer's specific needs. This customer-centric approach spurred significant technological advancements in control loading, motion systems, instructor consoles, and software diagnostics, solidifying CAE's reputation as an innovator in the field.

1980s - Meeting the Challenge

During the 1980s, CAE expanded its reach into international markets, with around 85% of its production being exported. The company ventured into new territories, selling power simulators in the U.S., introducing SCADA systems in China and Venezuela, and launching Integrated Machinery Control Systems (IMCS) for naval vessels in Canada and the United States. These initiatives showcased CAE's commitment to meeting global challenges with cutting-edge solutions.

1990s - A Decade of Diversity

In the 1990s, CAE built upon its foundation to emerge as a global leader in flight and systems simulation. The company's advancements during this decade positioned it as the foremost designer and manufacturer of civil aircraft full-flight simulators, flight training devices, visual systems, and computer-based training solutions. This period marked a transformative era for CAE as it solidified its position as a premier provider of training services in the aviation industry.

2000s - The Strategic Leap

As the new millennium dawned, CAE set its sights on becoming a global leader in aviation training services. In a strategic shift, the company announced plans to establish a comprehensive global training network, offering unparalleled products and services to the simulation and training industry. This bold move signaled CAE's commitment to redefining its role in the aviation sector and enhancing its offerings to cater to evolving customer needs.

2010s - The Training-Intensive Era

In the early 2010s, CAE continued its expansion in training services, solidifying its position as a worldwide leader in civil aviation, defense & security, and healthcare training. Embracing a new vision to be the preferred global training partner, CAE focused on enhancing its training services to meet the evolving demands of the industry. This period marked a significant milestone in CAE's journey towards becoming a premier training services company.

2020s - The Agile, Evolutionary Years

In the current decade, CAE is committed to pioneering digital immersion in training and operational support solutions to enhance global safety. With a vision to be the preferred partner in civil aviation and defense & security industries, CAE aims to revolutionize training and critical operations through immersive digital solutions.
