The Phasing Out of Internet Explorer 11 Support

AWS has recently announced the end of support for Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) for accessing various AWS services, including the AWS Management Console, Amazon Chime, Amazon Honeycode, and other parts of the AWS website. This decision is a strategic move towards enhancing security and ensuring optimal functionality for users. As of July 31, 2021, AWS will no longer guarantee that new AWS Management Console features and web pages will work correctly on IE 11. While bugs specific to IE 11 for existing features and pages will still be addressed, users are encouraged to make the switch to more modern and secure browsers like Edge, Firefox, or Chrome.

Timeline for the Transition

To facilitate a smooth transition, AWS has provided a timeline for users relying on IE 11. Firstly, effective immediately, new AWS Management Console features and web pages may not work optimally on IE 11. However, bug fixes specific to IE 11 will continue for existing features. In late 2021, users will start receiving pop-up notifications urging them to upgrade their browsers when accessing relevant services or pages. Finally, by July 31, 2022, AWS will completely discontinue support for IE 11. Therefore, users will need to utilize a supported browser to ensure seamless access to AWS services.
