AIgent Application and Evaluation Process Overview

Special Agent Selection System Overview

Special agents undergo a rigorous evaluation process called the Special Agent Selection System (SASS), which consists of ten steps designed to identify suitable applicants. The process includes thorough application and clearance procedures guided by an applicant coordinator. As part of SASS, applicants are evaluated based on Core Competencies such as collaboration, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. The process aims to ensure that selected individuals meet the high standards of the FBI.

Special Agent Eligibility Criteria

To qualify as a special agent, candidates must meet specific requirements, including having a bachelor's or advanced degree and professional work experience. They must be at least 23 years old, possess a valid driver's license, meet physical fitness standards, and be eligible for a Top Secret SCI Clearance. Additionally, applicants need to adhere to age restrictions and complete the SASS process before a certain age. These eligibility criteria ensure that candidates have the necessary qualifications and background for the special agent role.

Special Agent Selection System Process

The application and screening process for special agent positions involve submitting a comprehensive application packet, undergoing various tests, and meeting physical fitness requirements. Phase I includes a computerized test covering reasoning assessments, personality evaluation, and judgement scenarios. Following this, applicants must pass the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) self-evaluation and attend a Meet & Greet session to learn more about the role. Phase II comprises a writing assessment and a structured interview. Successful candidates receive a Conditional Appointment Offer (CAO) pending further evaluation.

Background Investigation and Medical Examination

After receiving a CAO, candidates undergo a thorough background investigation to obtain a Top Secret SCI Clearance. This investigation includes interviews, polygraph exams, drug tests, and verification of personal and educational backgrounds. The process can take up to 18 months depending on various factors. Additionally, candidates must undergo a Fit for Duty Medical Exam that assesses their overall health and physical capabilities, ensuring they are fit for the demanding role of a special agent.
