The City of Newport News offers residents a 311 Contact Center that allows them to request city services or ask questions about city-related issues via online, phone, email, or their 311 mobile app. Residents can submit requests for services such as damaged trash containers, street repairs, streetlights, tall grass or weeds, traffic signs, and traffic signals, among others.

If a resident cannot find the service they need online or via the mobile app, they can dial 311 or call 757-933-2311 to speak with a customer service representative. The Contact Center operates Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 6 PM. In addition to the Contact Center, the City of Newport News also provides information on topics such as bill payment, jobs, property information, taxes, permits, solid waste, and City Council.

The city also has a mobile app, NNVA 311, which allows residents to access city services and information directly from their smartphones. The city's website also provides helpful links and frequently asked questions (FAQs) on topics such as trash collection, missed trash pick-up, flooding and drainage system stoppages, personal property taxes, and starting water service at home. Residents can also sign up for the city's daily newsletter, Newport News Now.
