Science Assessment Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Science Assessment Item Specialist to join our team as a project-based freelance contributor. This fully remote position offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of high-quality Science assessment items aligned with national and state standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Create original, standards-aligned Science assessment items, tasks, and stimuli mapped to NGSS or state-specific standards.
• Transfer and format existing Science assessments from various sources into the Formative platform.
• Produce and configure technology-enhanced items (TEIs) with accurate metadata tagging.
• Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure content is unbiased and scientifically accurate.
• Evaluate the Depth of Knowledge (DOK) for each assessment item to validate content alignment and cognitive rigor.
• Provide expert feedback on platform content tools and item bank features.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• At least one year of experience writing and reviewing Science assessment items on a commercial scale.
• Comprehensive understanding of educational assessment design and standards alignment principles.
• Deep familiarity with NGSS and state-specific science frameworks.
• Mastery of Depth of Knowledge (DOK) classification.
• Experience authoring technology-enhanced items (TEIs) and using digital assessment platforms.
• Proven ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
• Legally authorized to work in the US.
