Science Assessment Specialist

The role of Assessment Item Specialist, Science involves creating original, standards-aligned Science assessment items and tasks that meet NGSS or state-specific standards. This is a project-based freelance position that allows for remote work across the US.

Key Responsibilities

• Create original Science assessment items aligned with educational standards.
• Transfer and format existing assessments into the Formative platform.
• Produce technology-enhanced items (TEIs) with accurate metadata tagging.
• Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure unbiased and scientifically accurate content.
• Validate content alignment and cognitive rigor by evaluating Depth of Knowledge (DOK).
• Provide expert feedback on platform content tools and item bank features.

Requirements & Qualifications

• At least one year of experience in writing and reviewing Science assessment items.
• Comprehensive understanding of educational assessment design.
• Deep familiarity with NGSS and state-specific science frameworks.
• Ability to apply strict standards alignment principles.
• Mastery of Depth of Knowledge (DOK) classification.
• Experience with technology-enhanced items (TEIs) and digital assessment platforms.
• Thorough understanding of established style guides and best practices.
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines.
• Legally authorized to work in the US.
