The Director of Environmental Regulatory Affairs & Restoration will lead the regulatory strategy for various projects, ensuring compliance with both California and federal permitting processes. This role involves mentoring staff, coordinating across multiple offices, and aligning project goals with business objectives. The successful candidate will represent RES in interactions with clients, agencies, and industry groups.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead regulatory strategy and navigate permitting and risk for projects.
  • Oversee California and federal permitting processes, ensuring regulatory quality.
  • Mentor and develop staff while coordinating efforts across offices.
  • Align project goals with overall business objectives.
  • Represent RES with clients, agencies, and industry groups.
  • Travel within California and occasionally coordinate with other regions.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences or a related field.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience, or 13+ years with an advanced degree.
  • Strong understanding of national regulatory processes and USACE districts.
  • Expertise in environmental permitting, including CWA 404/401, NPDES, and ESA.
  • Knowledge of the 2008 Mitigation Rule and regional guidance.
  • GIS capabilities with experience in ArcGIS preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as PWS, CWB, CERP, PG are advantageous.
